Cocoa Review
Over 4000 years ago cacao was domesticated in Central America by the Olmecs, and later popularized by the Aztecs and the Mayans. These cultures valued cacao so much that the seeds came to be used as currency and a rich drink made from the fermented, roasted, and ground seeds became a sacrament of sorts in an ancient ceremonial practice.
Cacao is the fruit of the theobroma cacao tree. Theobroma means "Food of the Gods", a name that reveals its superpowers.
Traditionally, indigenous people of Central America used cacao for offerings and in celebrations. In group rituals, they also used it to make the right decisions for the collective good of the village.
Cacao, a sacred heart-opening plant, was believed to help connect with the Spirit, and to make decisions from their heart space. Cacao was a powerful tool, a treasure that allowed them to live in harmony with nature and with their inner wisdom. During these cacao rituals, the plant was typically consumed in beverage form, similar to hot chocolate.
Raw cacao contains various phytochemicals that allow us to experience a state of happiness and bliss. The main ones and their benefits include:
-Seratonin- happiness and pleasure
-Magnesium- physical and mental relaxation
-Antioxidants- neutralize the free radicals in our body
-Arginine- improved blood flow in the arteries and heart
-Phenylethylamine (PEA)- energy and focus
During our chocolate tours we invite our guests to drink a freshly prepared cacao beverage. As cacao ceremonies are celebrations, we invite our guests to get up and dance to music to truly experience the benefits of this healing and heart opening tradition.
